Steubenville Man Allegedly Swallowed Crack Cocaine During Booking Process at Jail

STEUBENVILLE - Two men were arrested after a traffic stop resulted in cocaine reportedly being found, but it's what one man allegedly did during the booking process that resulted in more charges being filed.

On Wednesday, Steubenville police pulled over a car for speeding with three men inside. Police said one of the men, 57-year-old Jerry Tillman, had a prior drug history. A search of the car with a K-9 unit resulted in cocaine and a glass pipe being seized.

While booking Tillman at the Jefferson County Justice Center, a deputy reportedly warned Tillman not to put something in his mouth, and as one of the officers tried stopping Tillman from swallowing the items, he wasn't able to stop him in time. Tillman had allegedly swallowed crack cocaine.

Tillman is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of drugs, tampering with evidence and the illegal conveyance of drugs into a detention facility.
