A Hinton, West Virginia man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for drug trafficking.

U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin said Michael Harshaw, 38, of Hinton, West Virginia, had admitted to using his phone in October 2012 to make arrangements to sell five oxycodone pills to a person cooperating with police. He also admitted that he had a quantity of alprazolam pills, more commonly known as Xanax, in his possession as well.

He received an additional two years in prison because the offenses violated the conditions of his supervised release imposed in connection with a previous federal drug conviction.

Harshaw’s case was investigated by the West Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John File.

In other cases, Tiffany Rose Arbogast, 24, of Lewisburg, pleaded guilty to distributing heroin in Lewisburg in December 2012 to a person who was cooperating with authorities. Arbogast also admitted that she had distributed between five and 10 grams of heroin over a period of time.

She faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $1 million at sentencing, set for Oct. 23.

Her case was investigated by the Greenbrier Valley Drug and Violent Crime Task Force in connection with the Greenbrier County Heroin and Pill Initiative. File is handling the prosecution.

Both Harshaw and Arbogast appeared before U.S. District Judge Irene C. Berger on drug charges in federal court in Beckley.
