One home in West Bellaire is a total loss after a fire that broke out late Tuesday afternoon.
The fire was reported around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday on Third Avenue, when neighbors said they heard what sounded like three loud bangs. The home where the fire started is a total loss, while the home next door was also damaged. The fire chief said most of the damage on the neighboring home is centered in the living room and the roof. He said he believes that home will be salvageable.
The home that caught fire was occupied by a family, but they were not home when the fire broke out. They did have two pets, and officials said the dog made it out of the house, and that they were not sure if the cat made it out.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. At least five fire departments responded to the scene.
