A Detroit native will spend nine years behind bars for selling heroin in Charleston's East End, U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin said.

Darrell Shawton Collins, 36, sold heroin to a confidential police informant in December at the corner of Washington Street East and Thompson Street in Charleston, Goodwin said. At the time he was on supervised release for a prior drug-trafficking offense, he said.

U.S. District Judge John T. Copenhaver Jr. sentenced Collins to eight years in prison for dealing heroin, plus another year for violating the terms of his supervised release.

His case was investigated by Charleston police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Rada Herrald handled the prosecution.

In another case, Alton Tribble, 37, also of Detroit, was to five years and three months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute heroin.

Tribble admitted in April he'd planned to sell the heroin in the Huntington area. Authorities said they found heroin, a .32 caliber semi-automatic pistol and a set of digital scales when they searched his resident at 917 21st St., Huntington, in December.
