Wheeling Woman Receives Community Service Award

Posted: Updated:
WHEELING - A hard-working woman who is dedicated to serving others in the Wheeling community was honored Wednesday.

Becky Weigand has volunteered hundreds of hours at several organizations all over Wheeling, including the Warwood Christian Church, the retired seniors volunteers program, and Operation Christmas Child for the Northern Panhandle.

Weigand has also volunteered with the Birth to Three Organization for the last five years, and the employees who nominated her said they could not function without such a remarkable woman. Weigand received the 2014 Andrus Award for Community Service, and a check to the charity of her choice, in front of her friends, family and co-workers at Oglebay Resort.

Becky said she could not do the volunteer work without the help of everyone at the organization, and that she was truly honored.  "Birth to Three are the ones that nominated me and I was totally surprised, and overwhelmed, speechless which doesn't happen very often, and I am totally honored by this whole situation," she said.

Becky is already preparing for all of her volunteer work during the upcoming holiday season, and said she plans to continue serving her community as long as possible. She chose to donate the check to the Warwood Christian Church food pantry.
