Wheeling Police Respond to String of Burglaries over Thanksgiving Holiday

WHEELING - During the Thanksgiving Day holiday, Wheeling police responded to four separate burglaries/breaking and entering's throughout the city.

One of the incidents happened at a home on Jones Street in Elm Grove where police say thieves stole Christmas presents from a home while the family was out shopping overnight.

Wheeling police are reminding residents that residential burglaries, breaking and entering's and thefts tend to increase this time of year. They ask that all homes be properly secured as well as vehicles.

The Wheeling Police Department offers these tips to avoid becoming a target:

-Keep any items you consider valuable out of view when it's in your vehicle

-As difficult as it may be, try to refrain from posting photos of gifts and valuables on any social media site

-Look out for your neighbors

-If you see something/someone suspicious, call police
