Autopsy Results Show Dog Bite Caused Victim's Death

WHEELING -  Autopsy results for one of the victim's in a dog attack at a home in the 100 block of 14th Street in Wheeling, WV Sunday show the victim died as a direct result of a dog bite.

Preliminary results from the autopsy for Roy Higgenbotham Jr., 62, of Wheeling revealed a severed radial artery near his left wrist. According to a press release from the Wheeling Police Department, the injury was a direct result of the dog biting Higgenbotham and ultimately caused his death.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Morgantown, WV did not conduct an autopsy on the other person who died in the incident, David Wallace, 62, of Wheeling.

Detectives with the Wheeling Police Department said they are awaiting additional forensic pathology reports, like the final autopsy report and toxicology reports.

The City Manager's office is working closely with the Ohio County Animal Control and the family of the deceased regarding the states of the animal.
