WHEELING, W.Va -
A large crowd was on hand at Wheeling City Council Chambers as both the Wheeling Police and Fire Departments held a reception to honor some of there members Wednesday.
Sergeant Frank Kuca, who retired from the police department in January, was given special recognition for his twenty-five plus years of service.
Kuca was awarded several accommodations throughout his career. He is a second generation police officer and his son Kevin recently joined the department.
Wheeling Police Chief Shawn Schwertferger said he was honored to have worked with Kuca.
"I read his personnel file last night from front to back and it's quite impressive," Schwertferger said. "It hurts to lose guys like this, but it's nice to honor them in a ceremony like today for their 25 plus years of service to the citizens of Wheeling."
In addition several other officers were issued accommodations and a number of new officers were sworn in. Wheeling Fire Chief Larry Helms also recognized firefighters who have been promoted or received special recognition.
