A Wheeling man has been arrested in connection with the battery and forcible fondling of a teenager in the 3700 block of Wood Street.
James McCardle, 20, was arrested and charged with felony sexual abuse in the first degree.
On the night of April 13, a 15 year-old female was walking in walking in the 3700 block of Wood Street. Officers say a white man lunged at the teen from behind, and grabbed and fondled the victim and tried to pull down her pants. The teen was able to escape and ran home.
The next day, officers say the teen observed her attacker, who she identified as McCardle, staring at her while waiting at a bus stop for his sister. The victim told police McCardle was wearing the same white sunglasses with blue lenses, the same shorts and shoes he had on the previous night.
McCardle was arrested without incident at his residence in the 4400 block of Wood Street.
The Wheeling Police Department is investigating a case of alleged battery and forcible fondling of a teenager in South Wheeling.
The 15-year-old victim was reportedly walking in the 3700 Block of Wood Street on Monday night around 8:45 p.m. Police said a white man lunged at the teen from behind, and grabbed and fondled the victim and tried to hold onto her as she ran.
The victim was able to get free and run home and tell her family about the incident. Wheeling Police said they were called several hours later.
Officers are seeking the public's help in identifying the suspect. He is described as a white man with a medium build. He was wearing a black and grey hoodie and green shorts. He had dark hair, and it was in a "mohawk" style cut.
