BROOKE COUNTY, W.Va. -

Officials in Brooke County are now starting to get a picture of the type of lodge a local park could support.

For months, talks of a lodge coming to Brooke Hills Park was discussed, but finally a drawn out plan has been unveiled.

Larson Design Group unveiled the exciting plans Wednesday. The proposed lodge shows a lodge with 15 to 20 units, more than six cabins and a banquet hall and reception area that seats 150 people.

BDC Executive Director Patrick Ford said one of the biggest concerns of park board members was that the park was being utilized to its fullest potential.

Ford said what was also exciting is the way Larson Design Group utilized the whole park to support recreational activities that would be available all year round.

"It really highlighted how much of an asset this park is not only to Brooke County, but also I would argue in a three state area," Ford said.

Larson Design Group proposed that a variety of both passive recreation, active recreation and extreme sports amenities on site ranging anywhere from archery to disc golf to equestrian to sledding to team-building activities.

Ford said a final report will be presented the second week of July.

The final report will have a cost estimate plus a list of concessionaires and vendors that excel at operating lodges similar in size to what is being proposed for Brook Hills Park.
