Cyclists Turn Out for 'Bike Like MADD' Despite Rainy Weather

Posted: Updated:
WHEELING - The second annual Bike Like MADD ride was held in Wheeling on Saturday morning despite dreary skies.

Cyclists of all ages and skill levels started and ended at the JB Chambers Trail in Elm Grove. They chose between a flat ten or 20 mile course, or a 30-mile course with some challenging hills.

It was all to raise awareness for Mothers Against Drunk Drivers.

"We have a car seat safety check going on, there's a DUI simulator from the ABCA, we have music from Johnny O with KOOL 105, we have lunch provided by Miklas Meat Market and Wheelcraft is here checking bicycles and doing bicycle safety checks and things like that," said Josh Sanders, a Wheeling Police Officer and MADD volunteer.

"Our motto is, if we just save one person's life today by influencing them with our events, then we've done good. We've done our job," said Jody Miller, the MADD Chapter President.

Bike Like MADD was sponsored by OVMC and East Ohio Regional Hospital, the West Virginia Office of Alcohol Beverage Control, the West Virginia Governor's Highway Safety Program, and Wheeling Police.

The Wheeling MADD chapter recently won an award and is now a nationally recognized chapter.
