Juvenile Drug Court Program Hailed a Huge Success

Posted: Updated:
WHEELING -  A juvenile drug court program that started one year ago is a huge success, according to officials involved with it.

The juvenile drug court is used as a treatment and rehabilitation program for people under 18 in West Virginia facing drug and alcohol related charges.

Ohio County Judge James Mazzone says far more juveniles have graduated the program, compared to the ones who did not complete it.

He said the program has received praise from across the entire state of West Virginia.

"It's an important tool for a judge to have to utilize with the youth here in Ohio County," Mazzone said. "It's utilized as a term of probation or as a diversion from the system if drugs and alcohol is a component."

He says he hopes the program will continue to flourish in the coming years.
