WHEELING, W.Va -

An Ohio County man convicted of sexual assault against a 10-year-old girl has been sentenced.

William Redman, 56, was sentenced Friday morning to the maximum of 36-80 years in prison.

Before sentencing, Redman's attorneys asked to dismiss parts of the judgement involving actual penetration of the girl, but Judge Mazzone disagreed.

Assistant Prosecutor Jenna Perkins said, "From the time of age four, she (the victim) has been dealing with this defendant's sexual assault of her and everything that followed that, including this case."

Redman's defense said Friday that they will file an appeal to overturn the conviction.
