Clean up complete at Weirton Fire Department after collapse

Posted: Updated:

Clean up is complete after a collapse that occurred Sunday night at a fire station in Weirtion.

According to officials the collapse at Station 3 on Pennsylvania Avenue occurred, in part, due to previous damage.

A truck, without it's ladder up, was being moved forward to do some routine maintenance. The high side compartment door was open when the firefighter went to pull the truck out. It hit the middle support beam between the two garage doors, which is completely non-weight bearing.

Early Monday, the front facade was torn down and plywood was placed over bay garage doors. The rest of the building is in tact. No one was injured and safety operations will continue out of the Gilson Ave. station.

Drivers along Pennsylvania Ave in Weirton, WV noticed the roof of the Station 3 Weirton Fire Department collapsed Sunday evening.

Right now officials are not releasing any information on the incident.

However, witnesses tell 7 News they believe someone struck one of the support beams.

According to our crew on the scene, the building is being demolished at this time.

We will be sure to keep you updated as soon as any new information is released.
